Introduction

ネパール出身。現在、世界銀行本部の気候変動・クリーンエネルギースペシャリスト。主にスリランカ、ベトナムの炭素価格制度に取り組む。Sir Walter RaleighおよびBoardman奨学生に選出され、英オックスフォード大学大学院環境変動研究所（ECI）修士課程修了、インドマウラーナアザド国立工科大学工学部卒業。ヒンディー語・ネパール語・英語・ベンガリ語・ウルドゥー語といった南アジア諸言語を話すマルチリンガル。

これまで、世界銀行グループ、シンガポール開発銀行（DBS）、世界貿易機関（WTO）、世界知的所有権機関（WIPO）、国連環境計画（UNEP）、国際再生可能エネルギー機関（IRENA）などの国際機関、また、欧州連合（EU）気候イノベーション・イニシアティブ（Climate-KIC）、世界自然保護基金（WWF）、韓国政府機関（KOTEC）などにおいて気候変動、クリーンエネルギー、サステナブル・ファイナンスに関するコンサルティングを行う。

2018年には世界の革新的技術分野の起業家とのネットワーキングを目的としたコンサルティング会社 Hornfels Group Ltd.を共同設立。

ネパール人として初の国連ボランティア（UNV）アワードを2009年度に受賞。マイノリティの子供たちに教育の機会を与えることに関心が高い。趣味はランニング、アドベンチャー旅行、ジムでのボルダンリング。

Born in Nepal. Prajwal Baral is a specialist in sustainable finance and clean technology. Baral has worked for several public and private sector institutions including the World Bank Group (WBG), Development Bank of Singapore (DBS), the World Trade Organization (WTO), the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), UN Environment (UNEP) Inquiry into the Design of a Sustainable Financial System, C40 Cities Finance Facility (CFF), Climate-KIC (the EU’s main climate innovation initiative), the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and the Korean Government on issues ranging from climate change, clean technology and sustainable finance to trade in energy. At Korea Technology Finance Corporation (KOTEC), Baral played a crucial role in setting up a financing facility for climate technologies, backed by a tailored technology rating and valuation system. With DBS Bank, Baral did the first quantification of the green finance opportunities across the South East Asia Region. At the World Bank, Baral works on carbon pricing in Sri Lanka and Vietnam in the capacity of a consultant.

Baral has authored numerous papers and book chapters that cover topical issues in infrastructure and development finance, international trade, energy and climate change. His work has been cited by the likes of G7 Members, sitting Government Ministers and Senators, senior management at Central Banks, popular print media, academic researchers and others. He has an academic background in engineering from Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (India) and Environmental Change and Management from the Environmental Change Institute (ECI), University of Oxford (England).
